Being the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys is one of the most scrutinized positions in all of sports. It ranks right up there with being a superstar with the New York Yankees. Tony Romo is not living up to expectations these days. His career passer rating is 93.3. This season however his rating is 79.4 for the current season. People thought after dropping celebrity girlfriend Jessica Simpson that he would have his head on straight. He actually has better numbers with her as his main squeeze. Another downfall on this is we don’t get to see Jessica on TV anymore. This season he has made some poor decisions and has just as many interceptions as touchdowns. How long will the Cowboys stand by there decision and keep Tony Romo in Dallas? Will the cowboys keep him thru 2013 when his contract expires? The cowboys have a decision to make after this season that will most certainly change the franchise for good or bad.
I believe the Cowboys should trade Romo after the season if he continues to play the way he is. Statistically this year he is an average quarterback. I personally don’t think he will improve that much. He has been a full time starter now for a couple of seasons and has had success in the past in the regular season. Dallas however needs to win in the post season, something that hasn’t been done since 1996. Some people question Romo and his leadership abilities as well as his work ethic. Troy Aikman and Tony Dorsett, two Dallas legends have voiced their opinions on Romo and his abilities. I myself find it hard to believe that he is putting enough prep time into the gameplan every week, and if he is and still performs the way he is than that raises more questions. The Cowboys are currently 2-2 and play in a tough division, so making the playoffs isn’t getting any easier if they continue to lose close games like they did yesterday. By trading Romo some would think the Cowboys would be rebuilding, I don’t think that is the case.
The Cowboys need to work out a trade where they can get some draft picks out of the deal and maybe acquire a quarterback for next year via trade or free agency or start Jon Kitna, haha. They should inquire Cleveland about getting Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn, both of who I think can be a better quarterback in Dallas with better weapons to work with. After the 2011 season there might not be a salary cap and Jerry Jones can go New York Yankee style on the NFL and just buy a great quarterback who is on the open market. So the Cowboys might have to play one season with a questionable starter. They got the tools in place to still compete without Romo. By unloading Romo they can free up salary cap space to address other needs on the defensive side of the ball. They have a good offensive line and one of the best tight ends in the league. Yet the Cowboys managed just 10 points against Denver yesterday and those came in the first quarter. If that is ok by Cowboys standards than I guess they will continue to be a .500 football team and miss out on the playoffs. Time to make a move Jerry Jones and I’m not talking about moving that giant TV you got in the middle of the field.
