Why Big Mac

Why Big Mac

Nick Bradshaw here So I have been debating what I was going to write about for a few weeks. First, I was thinking what I joke the SEC has become with officials changing the outcomes of games. Then, I figured that everyone has fallen in love with the SEC so much that it would just fall upon deaf ears. Then, I was going to write about how the BCS clearly discriminates against non BCS schools and if this was happening in any other sector of the USA that there would be multiple law suites and Al Sharpton would be calling for the heads of college football. I decided against that because the same people who love the SEC have already concluded that no team in the country except another SEC team can play with the SEC even though sports fans know that one game one time anything can happen. Thank goodness these same people don’t run the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament if they did we would have no need for a Butler or Gonzaga. Isn’t it funny that we fall in love with those types of teams in March? They play there conference schedule and play a powerhouse conference team here or there, but when its tourney time that’s all forgotten and they can beat anyone at that time. That one win vs. the 6 place finisher in the ACC gives them all the accountability they need to make a run in the tourney.

Ok, sorry got off my point there. It has been announced that Mark McGwire will become the hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals next season. Why Big MAC? Why come back? Why now? Don’t get me wrong the summer of 98’ was great. It saved baseball; without it Major League Baseball would have died. Here are my issues Mark McGwire acted as a coward in front of Congress and said he would not talk about the past. Now, he is going to be thrown into the spotlight where every question will be about the past. Do you think in Spring Training the media cares about Brendon Ryan’s 3 for 4 game last night or did Big Mac use the sauce in 98’? Hmm… I know there are some toilet paper soft journalists these days, but even Peter Gammons has to ask about PED’s in 98 right? Well maybe the World Wide Leader will get a real reporter in there and have them throw some fast balls at Big Mac and ask him about his times with Steroid King Jose Conseco? Don’t get me wrong I don’t have an issue with the Big Heads using PED’s, I think Bonds is the greatest hitter of all time, I think the Rocket is a top 5 pitcher of all time. I have a problem with the coward’s way out. I know these guys have painted themselves into a hole because of the whole Congress issue, but Bud Selig can’t be happy about MAC coming back. I mean letting MAC come back as a hitting coach is like letting Pete Rose sit in the dugout with a parlay card. Is this really good for baseball? Every time a big heads name comes out as a PED user think about how hard baseball tries to clear the error. It was a mistake it was a numbers thing that list is confidential. I know MAC hasn’t been banned or even tested positive, but neither has Bonds and he has been all but black balled from the game. Court of public opinion found them guilty and we all know that is the only court that matters. I am all about 2nd chances ARod is having his right now. AROD admitted to it. MAC took the coward’s way out. He can never live that down. The Cardinals don’t have a cheater as a hitting coach they have a coward.
